BAA 5K
When: Sunday, April 17 @ 8:00 AM
Where: Copley Square
Distance: Less Than 26.2 miles
Hey hey hey, it's the BAA 5K! If you aren't running the Boston Marathon this year, you can still participate in the festivities by running this thing, which is 23.1 miles less than the following day's grueling event. The 5K course is flat and fast, finishing at the same spot in Copley Square that the marathon traditionally ends. Erstwhile CRCer Jenn Campbell (above) won it all last year. Who's gonna keep our streak alive?
Click post heading to register. Let folks know you're running it in the comments box, so we'll know what signs to make.

Hyannis Half Marathon & 10K Race Report
2/27/2011: The morning of the Hyannis half marathon/10K began with about an inch of fresh snow, which was easily ignored by the winter-hardened CRC runners who have been training through blizzards for the past 3 months. CRC had a very strong presence in the half marathon led by Brian Klein and Marcus Alexander and a smaller, but equally strong, showing in the 10K thanks to Brian Burg and Charlie Knutson. Post race festivities were short-lived due to the fact that everyone was wet and cold, but included delicious soup and donuts. Congrats to all CRC racers!

Fall Marathon Frenzy
CRC, it's time to sound off. The Race Committee is looking for YOUR suggestions for a destination fall marathon. Previous years have seen CRC target such exotic ports of call as Chicago, Philadelphia, Lowell and Scranton, PA. Andrew Goldthorp will organize this undertaking, which typically involves identifying transportation options, setting up hotel rooms, letting you know when you need to register, etc. You have until March 8 to nominate a fall marathon in the comments box below. The Race Committee will take the nominations (the serious ones, at least) and throw them right back at you in the form of a survey, which will decide the event/location once and for all.
So, what say ye? Are you down with Detroit? Fired up for Philly? Ready for Rochester? All over Atlanta? Mad about Memphis/Minneapolis/Miami? Turned on by Toledo/Tucson/Tulsa/Tampa? Start talking NOW.
Runner Seeking Charitable Runners
CRC,
I am writing in search of runners interested in participating in the 2011 Boston Marathon and raising money for charity. This year Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) received 7 numbers for the 115th running of the Boston Marathon®. On April 18, 2011 each member of CTF’s Marathon team will run in support of CTF’s work preventing child abuse and neglect across the Commonwealth. With 4 of the 7 numbers filled, CTF has 3 charitable numbers still available.
CTF’s administers several programs aimed to prevent child abuse and neglect in Massachusetts. CTF serves families throughout Massachusetts with an emphasis on children between the ages of birth through 6; and supports programs for parents of all ages, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. This year, CTF will provide programs that serve over 100,000 parents, children, and family service professionals. CTF is breaking the cycle of child abuse in Massachusetts by providing parents and caregivers with the resources they need to succeed at the most important job there is—raising healthy, safe children. For more information about the Children’s Trust Fund visit www.mctf.org.
We would appreciate it if you could share this information with your members. And if any members have an interest in running one of the most prestigious marathons and supporting the Children’s Trust Fund, they can please email Alicia Lenahan at Alicia.lenahan@massmail.state.ma.us or call her at 617-502-8761.
Thank you so much!

Bradford Valentine Race Report
On a relatively mild winter day (2/12/11), a handful of CRC runners took to the streets of Bradford, MA to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The Bradford Valentine Road Race featured two races run simultaneously: a 6k and a 5 miler. Runners could compete individually in either race and as a couple by entering a man in one race and a woman in the other.
In the 6k, Kaitlin Anelauskas and Nora Sullivan were the first two women to finish and were 3rd and 4th overall. In the 5 miler, Chad Carr and Brain Klein finished 3rd and 10th, followed by Rebecca Nisetich, Meredith Stanford, Kimberly Mikesh, and Liz Walker. Unfortunately in the open couples division team Sole Mates (Chad and Kaitlin) and team Hazardous Materials (Brian and Nora) came up short finishing 2nd and 3rd. Kimberly and her husband, Dan, finished in a tie for 2nd place in the husband/wife division – if only one of you had run a second faster… CRC plans to avenge both of these losses next year.
Almost all CRC runners won a half-pound box of chocolates and after the race everyone enjoyed a delicious brunch at Jayne Karolow’s parent’s house, who live a few blocks from the finish line.
Congratulations to everyone and thanks to Jayne and her parents!
